Match Write-up
Hewhoamareismyself:
So, the match was moved to Tuesday then at the last minute not moved to Tuesday then re-moved to Tuesday, but in the end we played it today. Was a bit of a mess, but The Swaggin Sailors don't care about the result.
And now I'm going to make a huge speech about the roller coaster that started in Season 10.
The starting roster for most of Season 12 had 2 people that started with us, the leaders, myself and Freeonpro aka Koishi Komeiji.
We were young and naive, our least experienced players were arguably our most important: demo and medic. After practicing and falling in love with pl_swiftwater, we failed miserably. We almost pushed 2nd point but could never get through the cave. We fell apart very quickly for not recognizing the most crucial choke in the map as something to defend. The next week we met a friend in Yuyuko, aka Setsuna, who plays in Silver now, as we sat on Gullywash last for quite a while. We pushed out once or twice, but we held well and took the entire maptime to lose all 5 points. Forfeit wins came our way, and our star sniper probably could have done very well if he had more support, but his morale faltered quickly, becoming a cancer on the team as we continued to have 0 points in each match. As Mr250 left, Shado, our seasoned pro demo, took a break and played demo for us, as Blaze's computer broke, Ice, the silly brit, took over for him. As I journeyed to Ireland, JB, the backburner pyro, filled in for me, and thus we advanced. We did have one win, on cp_granary, a 5-0, and it became increasingly apparent what we had to do for 5CP. I was in Ireland for this and got the memo at 1 AM that I had to report a match win. We did okay on the 5cp maps from the beginning, able to hold on some for some time against teams that rose to silver and steel, but the other games continued to go other teams way time and time again, and we were just flat out rolled. Our scout, though not as verbal, used the excuse that he had to move to disappear completely from the team. During his absences 1862011 filled in. Our closest match was pl_badwater, in which we suffered being a man down most of the match, as StarWars9870, our usual soldier playing scout, had connection for all of 5 minutes in the nearly hour long match. In the first season we lost Agyern and Rimeraz, and once the next season started Engie Shiro left for university. Watermelon, the star on our team next to Rimeraz, too left due to school.
Season 10 is the season people don't take seriously because it was a summer season, Season 11 we couldn't take seriously. We did not win a single match and went 4-4. We picked up friends to play classes. 1862011, who was arguably the best scout in our community, had time to play with us, beyond that Jyggy, the ever derpy comm-clogger, joined the team. Mika filled in on heavy, despite her only having 50 hours in TF2, she was the best we had. Though mr250 and Eirin learned their roles on demo and medic respectively, a Leeroy Jenkins heavy weakened our combo. And I'm not even going to pretend I'm a good pyro. I played all the flanking in this season. We had no combo anyway so it seemed like an okay idea.
We finally started to get our act together Season 12. We found that people had common times to scrim, and we had Krabby to fill in for literally everyone else. Mika was cut for Smoople, and we now had a decent combo. Friend Brooky, a steel engie whose team had fallen apart, also joined our squad and we had potentially the strongest squad we ever had.
Then it all went to shit.
Right before the preseason match, Mr250, our now seasoned demo, had to leave due to college, his last match, Barnblitz_pro, almost destroyed our team. We failed to push against a team we should have easily beaten, or so we thought. We had every advantage but none of the kills, and Blazeion too left the team because comms were shit and I got ragey at Jyggy for not only spamming comms, but not doing his job and being almost 20 minutes late while I was being pressured by the other team. The next week we tried Shado, a seasoned pro, to play demo for us, and Matt to med. Neither worked well, but Matt was committed so we kept him on while Shado had to Uni and we let RCX, an eager demoknight, take over on Demo. His lack of actual demo experience would be his downfall, but it was like playing with the old 250 all over again, only RCX didn't blow himself up as much. The next week, StarWars9870, who had come into his own in TF2 and top damaged for us as soldier despite inexperience, also left the team for some weird DayZRP thing. Then my girlfriend and I had sex in the bed he slept in while he and I were on a school trip because he actually knows me IRL and he still hates me forever. lol.
BkBoii, a friend of Brooky in Steel, joined us, but our team still suffered somewhat. Somehow a 300 hour soldier put out more damage than a steel soldier. Dunno how. After that 1862011 left for steel. Upward was a difficult time for us. We lost out for the most part because all of us had connection issues at one point or another. Matt never had mumble connection for more than a couple minutes, Brooky lost connection twice, Free dropped 4 times, but that didn't stop him having an amazing 6k to defend while our engie was down. BK had pingspikes of 400, RCX crashed in the most important push we had, and more. It was a mess. 1862011, Mike, the guy in the hat, left after that match for a Steel team. Though I hated Duffle for stealing away a good Scout, he threw us an idea in a PUG that turned things around. Maybe if Jyggy was main caller, he would call out less stupid things.
That was the end of our losing streak dating back to season 10, and lasting 10 matches (lolforfeits)
The next week we slaughtered a team 9v8, and I pulled out reflects I had never seen. Though we used Krabby, our goto backup, in place of Matt on med, we faced little combo issues. Thought nothing of it of course because it was 9v8. The next week we won again 9v8 without issue. This is really a problem guys. Field full rosters. The next week we won 9v9 on Borneo, with StarWars returning as BK joined a Steel team where he belonged, and we held and pushed on payload for the first time ever. This was a sign, truly, that the comeback was real. The next week was a mess, because TToJ, a team notorious for using Silver ringers to carry them, played us. We refused all ringers and they fell apart. After a nasty exchange it was decided we won 2-0.
Finally came Swiftwater. Swiftwater, where everything started. Where we failed to push, but where it all started. Only 2 of the 9 originals were on the starting roster still, but StarWars agreed to fill in until Season 12 was over. Then, out of the blue rose a medic. Blazeion had decided that if we had resolved our comms issues, what better place to have one last hurrah than where it all started. Then both Brooky and Jyggy approached me with problems. Brooky was leaving for home and his bus was at 9:30 on Monday, Jyggy had Shrek: The Musical Production Week so he wouldn't be around because he had to be an ogre. Smoople said he'd probably disappear as well. I told Vinyl we needed to switch the match time, he said sure. Then he told us they were switching it back, and switched it back and forth like twice before he gave me a straight answer. Oh well. We're playoffs bound maybe? If not shoutouts to Duffle for fixing our team, Atwas for being around and Icecrystal for being a silly brit.
tl;dr Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.
