Awhile back I was conducting an audit of leftover gift card codes and reaching out to teams who had not claimed them for the purpose of re-pooling them for future prizes and giveaways. Over the years some teams had forfeited them when I handed them out saying to give them as thanks to the casters and admins. So on a few occasions I’ve given small value codes to the staff as thanks. This was all handled from a Google sheet that only I had access to.

Earlier this year when VR announced an impending order freeze one of the staff inquired about any remaining codes. In a moment of haste and frankly stupidity on my part I just shared the whole Google sheet I had been auditing from. I did not give it more than a couple of seconds thought as I assumed this individual could be trusted to act responsibly.

Sometime later I discovered they had used over $2000 worth of the codes. I confronted the individual about it but did not alert VR, I suppose cowardly hoping they would have caught it and flagged it as a suspicious. About 18 weeks went by and the orders were still not fulfilled so this bolstered my selfish hope that they caught it on their end and I could avoid further conflict with this staff member. I'll post more on this in a bit, but in the meantime...

As the Head Admin I take full responsibility for my terribly careless lack of oversight that allowed the situation to take place and for not reporting it to VR when I knew it occurred. The staff member in question has been removed from UGC.
