UGC Highlander Week 7 - Steel

Wed, Feb 27, 2013 by Cold

Hello there weary traveler! Did you need some help? Oh! So you need directions to "Point E"? Can't your gas mask-laden friend give you directions? Ah yes, I see. "Hudda hudda", indeed. Well my heavy-set friend, getting to "E" is as simple as ABC! No, I am not referring to the Jackson 5 hit single. What's that? You've never heard of them? Oh, right, they haven't yet existed in your time period. Don't worry my friend. You probably won't live to see them, anyway.

Steel: A Massive Theatre of Dramatic Point Control!
Starring - French "Iron Chef" Sakai, Shortbus "Hookers" McDrinky, and Jamie "Fishbus" Manson!

Map Rules

Week 7's cp_steel is a "stopwatch" map. Stopwatch maps are played in 2 or 3 separate match-rounds, each team attacks once in each match-round. The Home team has choice whether to attack first or defend first in the first match-round only, teams alternate thereafter.

Match-round 1: Team A attacks and Team B defends, Team B attacks and Team A defends
Match-round 2: Team B attacks and Team A defends, Team A attacks and Team B defends.
Match-round 3 (if needed as a tiebreaker): Team A attacks and Team B defends, Team B attacks and Team A defends.

Scoring: When adding scores, each Match-Half or round won by a team counts as 1 point. The first team to win two match-halves/rounds wins the match.
Overtime: If each team wins a match-halves/round and scores are tied at 1-1, the third full match-round is played as a tiebreaker, with all the same settings as the first two rounds.

Possible match scores are (2-0 or 2-1).

Example:

Let's say it's Match-round 1. Team A (on BLU) caps 4 points with a total time of 9:49 before the clock runs out. Then the teams are automatically switched. Team B (now on BLU, Team A now on RED), either has to cap 4 points faster than Team A capped the 4th point, *or* the total 5 points before 9:49 in order to win the first Match Point (MP). If Team B fails to cap 4 points faster than Team A or fails to cap all 5 points (A. B, C, D, & E) quicker than Team A, then Team A is awarded the Match Point.

To put it in another, perhaps more simple way, each team who first starts on BLU for each match-round places the time to beat. Then, when the teams switch once the clock runs out, the next team on BLU has to beat the placed time. Once the first set of rounds are finished, teams manually switch sides so that the opposite team has a chance to place the ttime.

Here is an example, line-by-line from BLU team's perspective:
  • Team A places a time of 9:49.
  • Teams automatically switch.
  • Team B does not beat Team A's time as the clock runs out.
  • 1 point goes to Team A.
  • Teams manually switch sides in order to swap BLU and RED roles for the next match-round.
  • Team B places a time of 10:30
  • Teams automatically switch.
  • Team A beats team B's time placement with 10:20.
  • 1 point goes to Team A.
  • Team A wins, 2-0

Map Execution (for server operators only)
  • Authenticate to your server with rcon_password ( rcon_password myPassw0rd ).
  • Execute ugc_HL_stopwatch.cfg from the command line ( rcon exec ugc_HL_stopwatch.cfg ).
  • Reload the map. This is necessary for Source TV to start recording ( rcon changelevel cp_steel ).

Additional Notes
  • The "flame glitch" through the A door (exhibited here) is allowed. Warn your team!
  • Points capped in over-time will not result in time added to your clock. The round will end after over-time. This is something Valve has not addressed. We cannot do anything about this bug, so please inform your team and your opponent about this issue.
